Built in 1931, this former sock factory was renovated by architect Christos Papoulias.

What's the story

DESTE is a non-profit foundation established by the influential Greek-Cypriot art collector and industrialist Dakis Joannou. DESTE’s first permanent Athens home was in a converted paper factory in Neo Psychiko. It moved to its current location in 2006.

Why it's important

A big hitter in the global art world, the DESTE foundation’s private collection includes works by household names such as Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Jeff Koons, Tim Noble and Sue Webster.
