This is Athens - City Festival is back for its third edition this May with free admission*. The biggest annual spring festival in the Greek capital will take place throughout May and will even be stealing a few days from June. You see, this year's programme proved to be so packed, we couldn't possibly squeeze it into just 31 days. Thoroughly designed with a sustainable mindset, the festival’s rich agenda includes more than 250 events that will take place all over Athens in more diverse areas than ever before. On top of all the brilliant folklore festivities taking place during this year's TiACF, the 17 street parties, Athens Jazz and a not-to-be-missed unplugged night in Plaka, locals and visitors alike will be treated to a series of live music concerts covering a wide range of musical genres. Take notes:
Seeds Live, Canellopoulos Museum, 08/05, 8 pm: Clarinet and piano coexist with electronic sounds at the dreamy rooftop of this hidden Plaka museum.
Lubomyr Melnyk, Roman Agora, 15/05, 8 pm: The creator of “continuous music” and a force to be reckoned with, the Ukrainian pianist brings his transcendent compositions to the site of the Roman Agora.
George Panagiotopoulos and the De Profundis Ensemble, Holy Catholic Cathedral of Agios Dionysios the Areopagite, 15/05, 7.30 pm: This very special basilica on Panepistimiou Street rarely opens its doors. Join these talented musicians as they perform compositions by A. Corelli, J. S. Bach, A. Vivaldi and G. P. Teleman in a spiritual exploration.
De Profundis Ensemble, 18/05, Epigraphic Museum, 8.30 - 9.30 pm: Stop by the museum's scenic garden and enjoy classical compositions dedicated to the celebration of spring.
Petros Klabanis, Canellopoulos Museum, 23/05, 8.30 pm: Check into Plaka for a night of contemporary jazz led by the acclaimed bassist.
* Most events are free entrance and require no tickets, to the exception of some concerts that have a priced ticket, and some events that are free entrance but require pre-registration or are invitation-only.
