The 44th International Geoscience and Remote Sensing - IGARSS2024 Symposium to take place in Athens.
Athens was selected as the host city for the 44th “International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium - IGARSS 2024” by the Committee of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, following an international bid.
The Symposium will be held between the 7th and the 12th of July 2024, at the Megaron Athens International Conference Center. It will be the most prominent event in the sector, with more than 2,500 delegates, highly esteemed scientists as well as representatives of active key organizations in the field of Remote Sensing and Geoscience Observation.
The Greek candidacy succeeded in being selected over those of other competing cities, thanks to a complete and integrated proposal as well as an innovative presentation during the final phase of candidates’ evaluation, delivered to the Commission.
The Local Organising Committee for IGARSS 2024 joined his forces with the Institute of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications & Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens, the Remote Sensing Laboratory, National Technical University of Athens, the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas, as well as CONVIN, the professional congress organiser.
Athens’ candidacy was also supported by multiple public and private sector institutions, such as the Municipality of Athens, the Ministry of Development and Investments, the Ministry of Environmental and Energy Affairs, as well as representatives of the country’s key academic and research institutes.
Furthermore, many renowned scientists from Greece and abroad supported Athens’ candidacy, as members of the Organizing Committee.
The outcome of the vote for the ΙGARSS 2024 Symposium can be considered both a national success and an opportunity for Greece to promote its infrastructure and scientific capital, as well as its ability to be a frontrunner in attracting participants from all over the world, in the field of Geosciences and Remote Sensing.
