CONVIN Celebrates Unprecedented Success: Three Major International Congresses Successfully Implemented in May-June, Marking the Best Year Yet
Successful Organization of the 26th Triennial Congress of the International Academy of Legal Medicine (IALM) 2024 by CONVIN
CONVIN had the honor of organizing the 26th Triennial Congress of the International Academy of Legal Medicine (IALM) in Athens from May 21 to 23, 2024, welcoming over 650 delegates from 54 countries at the Athens Concert Hall Conference Center.
IALM 2024 provided an excellent platform for presenting the latest scientific developments in the field of Forensic Sciences. Distinguished scientists exchanged knowledge and ideas on the significant contribution of Forensic Science to the administration of justice and the protection of human rights. The thematic sessions included cutting-edge issues such as the application of Artificial Intelligence, molecular autopsy, violence against women, and the investigation of sudden deaths.
The keynote speech by Professor Ramon Brugada, Director of the Institute of Biomedical Research of Girona (IDIBGI) in Spain, was one of the highlights of the program, focusing on the use of molecular autopsy to investigate unexplained sudden deaths.
The three-day scientific program included over 50 sessions, with the participation of international organizations such as the International Criminal Court of The Hague, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the European Council of Legal Medicine (ECLM). Through these symposia and sessions, participants explored new technologies and methods that will guide the future of Forensic Science.
Organizing such an important conference in Greece, and specifically in Athens, was a goal that CONVIN set and achieved with great success. The collaboration with the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences and the excellent organization of the conference's details were recognized and praised by all participants.
We thank Ms. Chara Spiliopoulou, former Vice-Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, and President of the Congress, for her trust, as well as all those who contributed to the success of IALM 2024. We pledge to continue supporting the scientific community with the same zeal and dedication in the future.

Shedding Light on Fundamental Challenges to Research Integrity: The 8th World Conference on Research Integrity in Athens
CONVIN, committed to supporting the scientific community and innovation, successfully organized the 8th World Conference on Research Integrity (WCRI 2024) held in Athens from June 2 to June 5, 2024, gathering leading scientists and experts from around the world at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre.
WCRI 2024 served as a platform for discussing the critical challenges faced by the global scientific community concerning research integrity. Iliana Ivanova, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, highlighted the necessity of integrity in research, especially in an era when trust in institutions is being tested and new technologies like artificial intelligence in genetics are becoming increasingly significant.
Key Speeches and Central Themes
Among the keynote speakers were Professor Ioannis Hatzigeorgiou, Rector of the National Technical University of Athens, and Professor Ioannis Ioannidis from Stanford University, who praised the work of the research integrity community and emphasized the importance of transparency and ethics in research. The conference covered topics such as the risks and opportunities of genetic artificial intelligence, the detection of research fraud, and the challenges related to false publications.
The Athens Declaration
WCRI 2024 is expected to leave a significant mark with the Athens Declaration, which will guide research towards reliable policy and innovation. This declaration aims to promote research integrity and enhance its influence on policy formulation and innovation promotion.
Participation and Influence
The conference attracted around 800 participants, including researchers, funders, policymakers, and scientists from all over the world. Lex Bouter, Founding President of the WCRI Foundation, noted the competitiveness of organizing these conferences and their impact on host countries as well as surrounding regions.
Biomedical Innovation at ISBI 2024
CONVIN actively participated in the organization of the 21st International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI 2024), which took place at the Athens Concert Hall from May 27 to May 30, 2024.
A Significant Milestone for Biomedical Imaging
ISBI 2024, organized by the National Technical University of Athens in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, is one of the two most significant global conferences in the field of biomedical imaging. This year’s event in Athens, the first to be held in Greece, attracted over 1600 paper submissions from scientists around the world, making it one of the most vibrant and groundbreaking in its history.
Innovation and Collaboration
The conference focused on the latest developments in medical imaging and artificial intelligence, highlighting their role in personalized and precision medicine. Participants had the opportunity to attend seminars, innovation competitions, and clinically focused sessions on the use of AI and imaging for integrated diagnosis and monitoring of diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.
Scientific and Artistic Inspiration
A particularly innovative initiative of ISBI 2024 was the "Art-in-Biomedical-Imaging" series of events, which combined the science of biomedical imaging with artistic creation. During the conference, a renowned street artist created works inspired by the conference’s sessions, which were donated to ELEPAP to support its mission.
