AFEA Congress at IAPCO EDGE Porto 2025

From January 28-30, Porto became the center of innovation, learning, and collaboration for global event professionals at the IAPCO EDGE Seminar. The event brought together experts from around the world to engage in insightful discussions and hands-on experiences that shape the future of the meetings industry.

AFEA Congress was honored to participate in this inspiring event, with our CEO, Sissi Lignou, President-Elect of IAPCO, attending as a member of the Faculty, and our colleague, Georgia Tsiampoula, joining as an attendee. Over the course of three dynamic days, attendees explored key topics such as communication skills, collaborative bidding, global trends in the meetings industry, strategic planning, and leadership, all while networking with peers from across the world.

One of the most impactful moments of the seminar was a hands-on project focused on sustainability and social responsibility. Participants designed pouffes made from recycled materials, which were then crafted by CAIS artisans—individuals who have experienced homelessness. These pouffes were later donated to a children’s cancer ward in Porto, showcasing the industry's ability to drive meaningful change, beyond events and meetings.

The seminar featured an array of inspiring sessions, each delivering valuable insights and skills for industry professionals. Nicola McGrane led an engaging session on ''Communication Skills and the Power of Listening,'' emphasizing the significance of effective communication. Mathias Posch delivered an impactful talk on ''Mental Health & Self-Care,'' highlighting the importance of well-being in our demanding industry.

Representing the young leaders of IAPCO, Ellen Franck presented a session on ''Budgeting,'' offering fresh perspectives on financial planning. Ana Sá energized participants with an interactive session on ''Negotiation Skills,'' while our very own Sissi Lignou provided expert insights on ''Bidding & Sustainability.'' Additionally, Sissi Lignou and Nicola McGrane co-hosted
an empowering session on ''Leadership,'' followed by a thought-provoking discussion on ''Personalized Learning,'' encouraging participants to reflect on key takeaways and their professional applications.

Organized by IAPCO Training Academy & Faculty in collaboration with Visit Porto and North of Portugal - Convention Visitors Bureau and with AIM Group International, the IAPCO EDGE Seminar in Porto 2025 proved to be a remarkable opportunity to cultivate collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and positive change within the global meetings industry.
