NOŪS, member of YES! Hotels, to open its first resort in Santorini

Donkey Hotels Group, owned by the Joannou family, announces its first investment away from Athens, choosing the island of Santorini. NOŪS, a property of a 121 rooms, opens in June at the area of Mesaria. The resort will be operated by YES! Hotels, the contemporary brand of Donkey Hotels & Resorts Hospitality Group.

YES! Hotels is the first hospitality group that introduced the concept of ‘Contemporary Hospitality’ in Greece and remains a pioneer in that field. NOŪS – like all the member hotels of the Group – will be a member of Design Hotels. It’s important to highlight that the company launched the first Design Hotel property in Greece back in 2004 with the opening of Semiramis Hotel.

NOŪS. A unique concept

Following the path of traditional architecture. NOŪS resembles the traditional settlements of the island. Its suites and rooms are nestled in Santorini’s natural relief. All the materials, styles, and textures to be found in the resort follow on the steps of those that exist in Santorini for centuries now. NOŪS draws inspiration from the pure geometric forms of the island’s architecture. It embraces and reinterprets them in a contemporary way.

Rooted in Santorini. It is the island’s unique history that has shaped NOŪS. The world-famous murals found in the archaeological site of Akrotiri define the color palette of the resort. Earthy, terracotta shades and vibrant warm colors are used in all the rooms and common areas. The traditional “kouloura” – the sui generis way of knitting the vines that is typical on the island – has become an interesting decoration feature in a far more modern way. 

Art & Design Oriented. NOŪS is all about originality. An extensive collection of works of Art by 12 contemporary Greek artists is to be found in all its rooms and common areas. The regenerative but also destructive nature of volcanoes is the inspiration behind the collection, an invisible thread that connects the history of Santorini with NOŪS. At the same time, a series of modern design icons (by designers such as Doshi & Levien, Konstantin Grcic, Faye Toogood etc.) are located in all areas. Their timeless character complements the naturally minimalist style of the Aegean Sea, creating a modern temple of well-being.

NOŪS. A new destination

Stay. The new resort has a capacity of 121 rooms, most of which with private pools. Spaciousness is a key feature in all accommodation types. Every room, bungalow and suite – as well as all common areas – are designed to make guests feel comfortable. Each, separate “neighborhood” of NOŪS has its own style. Special emphasis has been given to landscape architecture. It is designed so that most rooms have their own large private gardens, but also it aims at creating green, cool oases for everyone.

Gastronomy. Based on top quality, local ingredients on the one hand and on a simple, honest approach to cooking on the other. These are the two pillars of gastronomy at NOŪS. The raw materials used, come from both Santorini and the rest of Greece. Their rich flavors, together with the cooking techniques of the local community, become a true inspiration for the chefs of NOŪS. Acknowledging the rising global interest for the Santorini vineyard, the resort gives its guests the opportunity to get acquainted with the local wine produce by taking part in wine tastings that are held in the special area of Oenous.

Wellness. An exceptional spa with 5 treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, steam bath, cold tank, gym, and a special outdoor yoga area. The team of highly trained therapists guides the guests of NOŪS through a personal journey of wellness. With the majestic balance between man and nature that has shaped Santorini as a starting point, they suggest a series of personalized treatments for body and mind that are available exclusively at the resort. Most of them are based on raw materials which are local to Santorini, such as the special grape varieties of the island. In addition, in the spa area, guests will find the Vitamin Bar, a healthy spot where they can try fresh salads and juices, cereal bars, smoothies and of course traditional products of Santorini.
