A Dynamic Start to the Conference Season: The 19th Panhellenic Medical Congress on Obesity by CONVIN
With a high-level scientific event, CONVIN inaugurated the new conference season by organizing the 19th Panhellenic Medical Congress on Obesity from March 6 to 8, 2025, at the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens. Hosted by the Hellenic Medical Association for Obesity, the congress brought together leading experts, healthcare professionals, and researchers to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in
obesity management.

Obesity as a Chronic Disease
Obesity is not considered a mere aesthetic issue but a complex chronic disease linked to over 60 health conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and various types of cancer. Additionally, social stigma surrounding obesity significantly impacts mental health, increasing rates of anxiety and depression among those affected.

Key Lectures
Among the highlights was the opening speech by Professor Dimosthenis Panagiotakos, titled “The Obesity Epidemic and the Missed Opportunities”. Moreover, Eugenia Manolidou, as an official guest speaker, highlighted the impact of the Greek diet on mental balance.
Oral Presentation Awards Scientific excellence was recognized through awards for the best oral presentations, which covered:

• Sympathetic nervous system dysfunction in normal-weight women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) after exercise, compared to normal-weight women without PCOS
• The correlation between Waist Circumference (WC), Body Mass Index (BMI), and HbA1C levels in obese patients with newly diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes
• The impact of semaglutide on weight loss and inflammation control in individuals living with HIV
