AFEA: Official Travel Partner and Supporter of Major Events

Annual Conference of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, 24-25 June 2019

The 8th International Conference of the SNF was completed with great success.

The Conference took place on June 24th and 25th at the Stavros Niarchos Hall at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

It is widely acknowledged that addressing seemingly intractable problems to create positive social change requires upending conventional patterns of thought and opening up to new possibilities. What does it mean, though, to put this idea into action? This question was explored at the 8th Stavros Niarchos Foundation Conference. The goal was to bring together innovative thinkers and doers from a wide variety of areas, approaches, and backgrounds and provide an experimental framework that invites unconventional thinking. What motivated the approach this year was a belief that we need to follow paths that diverge from grand theories, all-encompassing solutions, standard models, and accepted laws and assumptions.

In addition to the conference, on June 26th, 2019, Johns Hopkins University co-organized the 2nd SNF Agora Institute Workshop as part of SNF's monthly DIALOGUES series. The workshop, "Talking (and Listening) Across Divides", explored what experience and science can teach us about the requirements for productive dialogue and engagement. The workshop was led by a diverse group of scholars and practitioners whose research and work will help to shed light on how we might resolve, mediate, or even just consider, competing claims - essential work for any thriving democracy.

AFEA, a This is Athens-Convention & Visitors Bureau Member, supported the Annual Conference.
