IFLA 2019- Libraries: dialogue for change opens in Athens!
Lambrakis Hall in the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre came alive on Sunday 25 August, as more than 3600 delegates from 140 countries vied for a spot in Greece’s premier convention venue to experience the official opening of the 85th IFLA General Conference and Assembly.
AFEA, a This is Athens-Convention & Visitors Bureau Member, is proud and happy to have been a vital part of the bidding procedure in bringing IFLA 2019 Congress to Athens.
The caption of the idea and vision came together 3 years ago between AFEA and the Greek Library and Information Society and it was followed by a long and exciting process of bringing together all city and country stakeholders.
The National Host Committee consisting of the Greek Library and Information Society, the National Library of Greece with the full support of AFEA, This is Athens-Convention & Visitors Bureau and all city stakeholders, managed to submit a detailed proposal and bring this upscale event to Athens.
In August 2019, Athens welcomed the Conference and hosted a state-of-the-art event for the world of Librarians.
The event created a great learning and well as economic impact and left a memorable legacy for the city of Athens and our country. Athens showcased its potential in hosting international events successfully.
AFEA had the pleasure to also be a vital part of the operations team, as the official DMC of the event supporting KIT Group.
