The GEN Summit brings the world's leading media in Athens

The Global Editors Network Summit 2019 is taking place in Athens on June 13-15.

The Global Editors Network (GEN) held the official press conference of the event at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), where it presented the upcoming GEN Summit to Greek media. Some 45 media and technology journalists attended the press conference from leading outlets, including Alpha TV, Esquire, Fortune,Kathimerini, KanaliEna 90.4, Protagon, SKAI TV, Ta Nea, and VICE Greeceamong others. The discussion was moderated by Christos Memis, the GEN advisor and editor-in-chief of Protagon.

Bertrand Pecquerie, the GEN CEO, explained the relevance ofthe “VVV Challenge: Voice, Visual Journalism and Verification” to today’s volatile media landscape, and highlighted several speakers, including Katharine Viner, The Guardian, JohnMicklethwait, Bloomberg and Krishna Bharat, founder of Google News. Together, the 80 speakers of the conference will help the audience to reshape today’s journalism and set up a sustainable business model for news.

GEN’s Greek partners - Stavros Niarchos Foundation, SNFCC, iMeDd, University of Athens, the Union of Journalists, the Athens Convention Bureau and AEGEAN - were also present at the press conference and spoke about the significance of the GEN Summit in Greece.

GEN has planned for several sessions exclusively for the GEN Summit in Athens, involving cutting-edge technology for newsrooms and the latest research on digital news. Participants will get a first-hand experience of smart speakers, blockchain, AR/VR headsets and speech-to-text technology to name a few. New storytelling methods and automation of the news process will be also discussed by 700+ participants from 80 countries.
