Athens receives first global distinction at the World Travel Awards
The Greek capital has been crowned as the World's Leading Cultural City Destination 2022
Athens has been crowned as the World's Leading Cultural City Destination at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2022!
This is the first global distinction for the Greek capital in the WTA event that is dedicated to the international travel and tourism industry. Athens won the title after competing in the same category with other landmark cities, namely New York, London, Paris, Rome, Beijing and Rio de Janeiro.
Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA) CEO Epameinondas Mousios received the award on behalf of the City of Athens during the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2022 that took place in Muscat, Oman, on November 12.
“We are proud of Athens’ first global distinction at the World Travel Awards, which proves that the City of Athens’ long-term strategy for the city’s sustainable development - carried out through ADDMA - bears fruit”, he said.
The award follows Athens’ double win at the World Travel Awards Europe earlier in October. The city was named “Europe's Leading Cultural City Destination 2022” while This is Athens-Convention & Visitors Bureau received the “Europe's Leading City Tourist Board” title for 2022.
