Mount Penteli is one of the four ranges that cradle Athens. At 1,006 metres, it’s the second highest summit after Mount Parnitha. Pentelic marble has long been prized for its purity. The marble quarries operated from around the 6th century B.C. until the 1940s and yielded the vast bulk of the material used to build the Acropolis and ancient Athens. Today, tranquil Mount Penteli is a beloved nature getaway for local Athenians, offering a scenic nature trek through history with hidden churches, ancient marble quarries and secluded picnic spots with amazing views.
