Nina Papaconstantinou: In Praise of Shadows
If you're in the city centre and have some time to spare, head to Megaron for In Praise of Shadows by Nina Papaconstantinou. The Greek visual artist explores the relationship between text and image through techniques like copying, tracing, and inscribing.
Inspired by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki’s masterpiece, her work creates a dialogue with Alexandros Papadiamantis, the “poet of twilight,” known for his emotional depth and vivid portrayals of Greek society at the turn of the 20th century. By blending Tanizaki’s hazy aesthetics with Papadiamantis’ otherworldly figures, she highlights the expressive power of solitude, turning text into imagery.
