Louise Bourgeois: Maman
Mothers and spiders, how much do they have in common? A lot, if we trust Louise Bourgeois, the sculptress who uses family, fear, and love as her raw materials. Maman, a mammoth spider sculpture with its body resembling knots, threads, and needles (although it’s cast in metal), alludes both to her mother - a professional tapestry weaver - and family bonds (can’t live with them, can’t live without them.) Standing on its giant legs of over 9 metres high, Bourgeois’ iconic sculpture that has been travelling the world since the ‘90s, will look over the SNFCC’s Esplanade for seven months. Plenty of time to plan out your TikTok video.
Spiders give you the jitters? Stroll the SNFCC’s terrains instead and lounge next to the water at the Canal Café.
