Weather Engines
Weather matters. You were expecting a sunny day on the Acropolis and you got a downpour instead. Blame it on the weatherman, right?
It’s not so simple, though, and Weather Engines is not here to make small-talk about it. The elements affect everyone differently; it’s a matter of where you live in the world. Do you have access to shelter and resources? How close to the rising levels of the sea do you live, as the global temperature keeps rising and the glaciers are melting?
In this three-day conference for the climate conscious and the stargazers, Stegi Onassis teams up with the National Observatory of Athens to bring art and science together. Through lectures, art installations and sound performances the conference sheds light on the role weather plays in our lives, how we alter it with practices like geoengineering, and how it affects us back; from ocean sounds, to mushroom spores, and from satellite signals to the tiniest of insects.
If you stick around in May, check out the conference’s workshops. You can even learn how to make flip-flops from algae.
