Light Installations Festival 2023 at the SNFCC
When it comes to Christmas lights, SNFCC has one rule; go big, or go home. The Palio Faliro cultural centre tries to outdo itself every year, unveiling stunning new light artworks to the public each festive season. This year, the Light Installations Festival coming to SNFCC Christmas World has a heartfelt message about community and togetherness. Titled “Gatherings: People Coming Together”, the festival features impressive light sculptures and artworks created by international and local artists. Here’s our quick guide to see them all:
Don’t miss Sign at the Great Lawn, a mythical-like structure, made of bamboo canes and aluminium tape, that rises into the sky and flickers its fiery lights. At the Dome you’ll spot Rhizome, a luminous web representing human connections. Found all over the Mediterranean Garden, a series of lanterns, aptly named Bloomlights, bend to meet passersby. See Loops along the Southern Walks of the SNFCC, an audiovisual installation that uses light and sound to interact with visitors. And don’t forget Synathroisis (“Gathering”) on the centre’s plant-covered roofs, an installation inspired by the habit of raising your lighter flame during an emotional song at a live concert —for the younger ones, that’s what we used to do before smartphones.
