Indulge in More than a Month of Festivities at the City’s Biggest Spring Festival
Spread the word: the summer months are no longer the main act in Athens. May is.
We are thrilled to announce the third edition of This is Athens - City Festival! The biggest annual spring festival in the Greek capital will take place throughout May and will even be stealing a couple of days from June. You see, this year's programme proved to be so packed we couldn't possibly squeeze it into just 31 days.
Thoroughly designed with a sustainable mindset, the rich agenda of This is Athens City Festival (TiACF) includes more than 250 events with free entrance* that will take place all over Athens. Crowd favourites such as partying atop Lycabettus Hill, dining with Acropolis views and catching a concert at the Ancient Agora are all back on the menu. But we're not simply aiming for a mere repeat. This year's programme covers more ground than ever before, transforming every inch of the city into a public space fit for celebration. Think unplugged concerts in Plaka under a full moon, piano performances at museums, traditional Greek folklore festivities, fitness events, book readings and much more.
By tradition, the festival kicks off on May 1st with the big Urban Picnic at Plato's Academy, one of Athens' most historic but least explored areas, which will soon play a major role in the city's cultural landscape when it becomes home to the Museum of the City of Athens, the country's first sustainable museum.
What’s more, the first week of our festival coincides with the Orthodox Holy Week. To honour the country’s biggest religious occasion, we have especially designed a number of events that carry a deep, spiritual undertone—and we’ve even taken some days off to revel in the customary festivities of Easter.
Head over to the festival's official website for all the info you might need on hours, dates, tickets and locations. Got any questions? E-mail us here, we'll be happy to answer. Let the festival celebrations begin!
* Most events are free entrance and require no ticket, to the exception of some concerts that have a priced ticket, and some events that are free entrance but require pre-registration or are invitation-only. All related information to each of the festival's events can be found on the festival's website, under the page for each event.
