Chronography: Robert McCabe
Before modernisation and mass tourism, Greece’s landscape was quite different to what you see today. Robert McCabe, photographer and philhellene, travelled through the country in the 1950s and 1960s, taking pictures of archaeological sites, village and island life, creating a body of work that is not only artistically significant, but also historically so. Check out his evocative exhibit of 53 black and white photos (to mark the 180th anniversary of the Archaeological Society of Athens)—and if you fall in love, a collection of them all is available in a recently-published book.
