On-line: Human Behaviour
What happens when three acclaimed choreographers each compose a modern dance work from elements deeply rooted in the tradition of classical ballet? The result is Human Behaviour, a joyful and complex modern dance triptych, created by Ioannis Mandafounis, Ermira Goro and Konstantinos Rigos – 3 leading lights of Greek dance - and performed by the Greek National Opera Ballet. Unfolding on the Alternate Stage of the SNFCC, the production allows the dancers to improvise new forms in a smaller space than they are accustomed to.
In a nod to Greece’s milestone bicentennial year, GNO Ballet director Konstantinos Rigos has based his segment on works by the accomplished Greek-German composer Dimitri Terzakis, inspired by the legacy of Greek antiquity and modern Greek history. Says Rigos: “The interpretation of this composition must be endlessly free, poetic, songlike, speech-like and, yes, ‘old-fashioned’ – like in the theatre of ancient Greece”.
* Due to the restrictive measures against the pandemic, the performance dates refer to when the production will be recorded so as to be streamed on GNO TV.
