The museum was founded after a growing interest in children’s art swept the nation back in the late 80s to early 90s. The nationwide Children’s Art Contests launched by the Milies Museum on mount Pelion, the annual showcase of the aforementioned contest winning art by the Museum of Cycladic Art, and the enthusiastic reactions to international exhibitions in Oslo, London and New York at the time, are just a few examples of events that drew attention to the subject.
