A museum dedicated solely to art by children.

When was it built

It opened its doors in 1994 in a neoclassical building on a quiet street in Plaka. The museum’s mission is not to only introduce kids to art, but teach them to express themselves through the medium.

What's the story

The museum was founded after a growing interest in children’s art swept the nation back in the late 80s to early 90s. The nationwide Children’s Art Contests launched by the Milies Museum on mount Pelion, the annual showcase of the aforementioned contest winning art by the Museum of Cycladic Art, and the enthusiastic reactions to international exhibitions in Oslo, London and New York at the time, are just a few examples of events that drew attention to the subject.

Why it's important

It’s one of the few museums in the world that exhibits art made by children (ages 4-14). There are over 10,000 pieces of art, a number that keeps growing every year.

Everything. Kids will love to be surrounded by drawings, paintings and constructions made by their peers, while at the same time, being in an actual museum.

Fun fact

This small museum is visited by about 7,000 primary school children annually, where they participate in arts and crafts activities and workshops.
