Alex Mylona was a pioneer of the Greek modernist movement. The museum represents the development of her work from the 1950s until her death in 2016.

In the 1920s, designed by architect Vassilis Tsagris.

What's the story

This listed mansion was renovated in 2004 and converted into a contemporary art museum by the late, great artist Alex Mylona. A sculptor, she represented Greece at the Venice Biennale in 1960.

Why it's important

Alex Mylona’s abstract bronze, marble, iron and copper sculptures are displayed across three floors of galleries. The museum also regularly hosts contemporary art exhibitions, performances and workshops. At the museum shop, you can buy Mylona artworks including jewellery, sculptures, paintings, engravings and art books.

Must-see

The small section devoted to Mylona’s colourful paintings of the female form strike an interesting contrast to her stark sculptures. Catch the marvellous view of the Acropolis from the museum's roof terrace.

Fun fact

Alex Mylona’s daughter Eleni is also an influential artist with a reputation for avant-garde photography and digital installations.
