Athens is home to two Unesco World Heritage Sites: the Acropolis of Athens and the Daphni Monastery. Built in the 6th century, the Daphni Monastery is a stunning example of Byzantine design and religious iconography, with exquisite architecture and stunning mosaics. All surviving buildings are from the 11th century. A must-see is Agios Nikolaos, a small 9th-century basilica in the monastery cemetery.
