The Tactual Museum of Athens, one of five museums of its kind in the world, offers an excellent new way of approaching ancient Greek civilization, not only for persons who are blind but for sighted people, too. The museum was established in 1984 and it was accessible only to persons with vision impairment or low vision until 2004, when it opened its doors to the general public. The museum’s pivot to allowing a general entry was a great step towards raising awareness on the capabilities of blind people as well as the everyday difficulties they face. With a rich programme of inclusive actions, training seminars for professionals and children’s educational programmes, this award winning museum makes for a fascinating cultural destination for both sighted and blind persons.
