3rd Sacred Music Festival
Athens’ most atmospheric venues—from historic churches and museums to neoclassical theatres and open-air courtyards—will be filled with sacred music this Holy Week, as the 3rd Sacred Music Festival returns to the city.
Curated by the Greek National Opera and the Ministry of Culture, the five-day festival invites visitors to experience more than 40 free concerts and artistic events, blending spirituality and sound in uniquely Athenian settings.
Expect Byzantine hymns and contemporary sacred compositions, choral works and orchestral pieces—each performance held in spaces that deepen the emotional resonance. From the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens and the Catholic and Evangelical churches, to the Fethiye Mosque, Acropolis Museum, and Olympia Municipal Theatre “Maria Callas”, the city becomes a stage for introspection and connection.
Highlights include:
- Palm Sunday (April 13): Vassilis Tsitsanis – The Saint of Love at the Acropolis Museum courtyard
- Holy Monday (April 14): The Vamos Orchestra performing Mikis Theodorakis' Epitaphios
- Holy Tuesday (April 15): The Vanya Moneva Choir presenting traditional Bulgarian polyphony
- Plus: Cherubini’s Requiem (April 13) and Britten’s Noye’s Fludde (April 14-15) at the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre Maria Callas.
All events are free to attend. Priority passes are required for performances at the Maria Callas Theatre and select venues.
