AEF2024: La Traviata
The Athens Epidaurus Festival (AEF) is gearing up for a spectacular 2024 edition with 85 days filled with sheer artistic brilliance. From June 1 to August 24, AEF will transform iconic venues across Athens and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus into stages for 93 productions featuring over 2,500 artists from around the world. The Athens leg of the festival concludes on the last day of July, while in August the action moves to Epidaurus, where eager locals pilgrimage for their annual rendezvous with Greek tragedy. The Athens leg of the Festival concludes with a star-studded performance of La Traviata at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Verdi's beloved tale of the doomed romance between the Parisian courtesan Violetta and young bourgeois Alfredo will unfold under the direction of avant-garde choreographer Konstantinos Rigou. The exceptional Nadine Sierra as Violetta Valéry, Freddie De Tommaso as Alfredo and Greek baritone Dimitri Platanias as Giorgio Germont lead the first cast, while in the second cast, prepare to fall under the spell of the exceptional talents of Vassiliki Karayanni as Violetta, Tassis Christoyannis as Giorgio Germont and Francesco Demuro as Alfredo.
