Art: Key to Conflict Resolution
"Hands are powerful instruments. Hands can hurt or heal, punish or uplift. They can also be bound but a quest for righteousness can never be repressed."
Nelson Mandela was no stranger to inspiring speeches. These beautiful words are part of his commentary on his 2001 Struggle Series, a strip of five humble drawings and a hand-written motivation that tell of his personal struggle and that of his country. For the first time in Greece and supported by Athens Culture Net, Struggle Series will be presented as part of the international exhibition "Art: Key to Conflict Resolution" at the Serafeio Athletics & Community Complex. The exhibition will showcase works from 23 visual artists - among them the globally acclaimed Esther Mahlangu, activist and multimedia artist Wu Yuren, author and journalist Asra G. Nomani.
The opening of the exhibition takes place on July 17 at 7.30 pm. Earlier in the day, at 6 pm over at the Benaki Pireos Annexe, you can attend an open talk on the book that inspired it all, Can Art Aid in Resolving Conflicts?
