The Athens City Festival, the biggest annual spring festival of Athens is back! Athens City Festival will take place throughout the whole of May (yes, you got that right, a 31-day-long festival) with free entrance* events happening all around the city. Consisting of four main pillars—Exhibitions, Gastro-Culture, Entertainment, and Outdoor Athens—the festival aims to showcase both the essential and the understated traits of our unconventional city, offering visitors a first-hand experience of the Athens way of living life. This year ACF includes more than 120 events catering to all tastes, types and ages, making May the ideal season to pay a visit to our side of the Mediterranean. The city's greatest jazz fiesta is back, right in time for festival season. To be fair, Athens Jazz has been kicking off festival season in our parts for the last twenty-two years, horns ablaze. The week-long, free-entrance (yup) festival will take place, as always, at the industrial complex of Technopolis in the neighbourhood of Gazi. As per tradition, the first day is dedicated to the local jazz scene showcasing upcoming artists and bands. The line-up for this year's opening day consists of the winners of this year's open call, SpiralTrio, Nefeli Fasouli Quintet and Thomas Mitrousis Quartet. Legendary Belgian trumpeter Erik Truffaz, indie-jazz Danes I Think You're Awesome, and Berlin-based jazz pianist/beatboxer KID BE KID are among the first names that have been announced. But, that's not all. Athens Jazz will also present a Club Programme with ticketed concerts that will take place at the stages of the nearby Gazarte club. Behemoth neo-soul and jazz artist Roy Ayers, and iconic drummer Billy Cobham are the first names that have been announced for these special shows. Watch this space for more info.
