AEF2023: Jazz at the Platea
It’s that time of the year again, when Athenians start planning their summer holidays around the programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The leading performing arts festival in Greece, and one of the oldest in Europe, returns between June 1st and August 26th for its 68th edition with a rich programme of events. As always, the main venues are the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the industrial complex of Pireos 260 and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. Click here for our festival picks or head over to the official website for the full programme.
A festival within a festival? Why not! The rich programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival certainly has room for one. Jazz at the Platea will be taking place at the open-air space of the Pireos 260 complex and is bringing us four separate jazz concerts between June 7th and July 20th. These concerts will run parallel to the scheduled festival events of Pireos 260 and the best thing is that they are free entrance. This means that after watching a fascinating dance or theatre performance at one of the warehouses-turned-performing-stages you can stick around and enjoy drinks from the festival’s bar and a free jazz gig. Check out the dates below and follow this link for more info on the event. All concerts start at 11 pm.
7 - 9 June; Adedeji Adetayo Sextet
3 - 5 July; Spyros Panagiotopoulos Quintet (BFAM)
9 - 11 July; Terry’s Quartet
17 - 19 July; Apostolos Leventopoulos Trio feat. Vasilis Xenopoulos
20 July; Party concert, Crazy People Music
