Athens Half Marathon 2022
Need a good nudge to break out the warm-up stretches and start pounding the parks and running routes of Athens this winter?
How about the fact that you’ll be getting yourself race ready for one of the city’s most popular spring sporting favourites: the Athens Half Marathon.
Organised by the Hellenic Athletics Federation and the City of Athens, the Half Marathon kicks off from Syntagma Square, and is the ideal event for regular and novice runners of all ages, as there’s also a 5km Race, along with the classic 21km route.
Then there’s the bonus that all routes will take you past significant and cultural monuments of Athens (The Greek Parliament, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Academy and Athens University, and the National Archaeological Museum – to name drop a few).
Registrations have just opened (January 28) and participant numbers are limited as Athens cautiously begins its grand effort to “restart” the city’s historic road race events beloved by sporty visitors, so don't delay if you're a serious contender.
The 2022 Athens Half Marathon event will abide by all safety rules and regulations of the National Public Health Organization, and in line with current health protocols, only runners with a valid* COVID-19 Vaccination or Recovery Certificate will be able to participate. To avoid disappointment, be sure to check out the event’s COVID-19 Cancellation Policy before registering for the race and check that you have all the necessary documentation.
