28th Athens International Film Festival 2022
What’s your jam? Indie flicks or maybe the most talked-about films of the season? Whatever tickles your fancy, make sure to plan ahead if you think you’ll be in the mood for some movie time while in Athens in late September/early October. The madly popular Athens International Film Festival - AIFF (Premiere Nights) has announced its dates for this year, unofficially signalling the start of the Athens film festival season.
Update: The moment we’ve been waiting for is here: Τhe programme is out. Major highlights include a tribute to British Queer Cinema under the theme name Queer Britannia and to New Hollywood with a selection of classic American films from the 1970s. Another not-to-miss special screening is Ennio (2022), a documentary focusing on the renowned score composer Ennio Morricone which is to be introduced by a live performance of the Stavros Lantsias Quartet. Amongst this year’s guests you will find Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski, whose latest film EO won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. AIFF also honours Jean-Luc Godard with a 2022 film which reflects his work and life. And whether you're a David Bowie fan or not, don't miss Moonage Daydream which comes to us with a fully remastered score for just one special screening.
Get ready to mingle with the cinephile crowd of Athens at landmark locations and new additions, including Danaos, Pallas, Cine Ideal, and the Athens Concert Hall.
Even better, do it like the locals do and get the pass for ten or more films. Lights out!
