Athens Photo World 2021
Keep your eyes alive when you’re exploring Athens from now until the end of summer. Some of the city’s most walked streets, neighbourhood squares and public buildings will become giant frames to display gripping images from around the globe.
Athens Photo World is once again turning its lens on reflecting daily life around the planet – particular during the age of pandemic - in this new annual panorama of photojournalism that debuted in 2019. The visual arts platform applauds the efforts of photojournalists in documenting our big moments of history and in shaping how we see the world.
Once again this year, there are various staggered themes at different venues and times:
- From 21 May – 30 August, Greek snappers enter the spotlight on the Athens Concert Hall Railing;
- From 1 – 31 August, you can admire the multi-awarded Paolo Pellegrin’s powerful “As I was Dying” on view on the 4th floor Atrium of the National Library of Greece (Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre);
- From 21 May – 20 June, teenage photographers take the floor at the Chalandri Central Square in the pandemic-inspired “Movement 6” (a reference to Greece’s lockdown measure of mandatory citizen movement texts);
- And finally, the prestigious World Press Photo series will go on show on the ground floor of the National Library from August 23-September 14.
