Athens Pride 2024
Get ready to paint the city rainbow! Athens Pride is back and this year's message is "A Law is Not Enough". For those of you who haven't heard the news, Greece legalised same-sex marriage back in February 2024, and Pride's message is a clear nod to this huge milestone, while at the same time calling for more work towards changing the hearts and minds of Greek (and the world’s) citizens.
From May 17 to June 14, Athens will be hosting the most colourful of celebrations with events popping right and left all over the city. Here are some of the programme’s highlights so far:
Exhibitions
I Am a Vulva / until June 2, Katais, 11 am - 8 pm, Sunday noon - 5 pm: Visual artist Effie Emmanouilidi attempts to raise awareness on the modern issue of gender identities.
Rainbow Seniors group exhibition / until June 14, The Project Gallery, 11 am - 7 pm: A glimpse into the past of the LGBTQ+ community through the eyes of five elderly LGBTQ+ artists.
Film Screenings
Oleander, June 8, Technopolis, 8 pm: Three transgender women in their 60s embark on a night stroll through Athens, revisiting the streets where they began their sex work, had fun, found love, struggled, and resisted gloriously.
Lesvia, June 10, Hellenic American Union, 8 pm: In the 1970s, lesbians from around the world flocked to a small village on the island of Lesbos. A local lesbian filmmaker weaves a tale spanning over four decades, exploring themes of love, community, conflict, and the request for acceptance.
Transistence, June 10, Hellenic American Union, 7 pm: Two journalists take a journey from Athens to Madrid to explore the experiences of transgender people.

Athens Pride has got it all covered and it all comes to a close with the parade on 15 June at Syntagma Square.
