August Full Moon at the Acropolis Museum
Every year, the Acropolis Museum takes full advantage of the August full moon – and so should you. 2021's special perks? On 21 August, you can enjoy the world-class exhibits until midnight, with free entry. The splendid restaurant and cafe on the second floor also stays up past its usual bedtime, allowing museum-goers to take in our legendary rock, cloaked by moonlight, over drinks or dinner out on the terrace (pre-book on +30 210 900 0915).
Care to dig a little deeper? On Sunday 22 August, at 6pm, you can attend a free hour-long presentation, hosted by an archaeologist, who’ll shed light (in English) on some of the collection’s gripping treasures.
Incidentally, even if you’re not in town in August, you’re still in shot of a freebie ticket. From now until December, time your visit for the 21st of each month, and you’ll pay nothing to knock off one of Europe’s most outstanding contemporary museums. It’s all part of the "Greece 2021" initiative; celebrating the country’s landmark anniversary of 200 years since the Greek Revolution of 1821.
