Bernardine Evaristo
“Be wild, disobedient and daring with your creativity, take risks instead of following predictable routes,” writes the British author, academic and activist, Bernardine Evaristo, in her memoir Manifesto.
The author of the Booker award-winning novel Girl, Woman, Other visits Athens and meets with Greek playwright, author, and screenwriter, Alexandra K*. for a public discussion at the Onassis Stegi stage. The art of writing, the significance of being a woman of colour in today's world, and the value of being thyself will be the topics of discussion. Evaristo’s work deals with matters of race, gender, colour, sexuality, and social order, so we’re pretty sure these will come up in the talk, too.
Evaristo, President of the U.K.’s Royal Society of Literature, describes her writing style as fusion-fiction, which allows her to transcend genre boundaries and follow a freely creative process. Currently in her 60s, she is a passionate defender of writers of colour and aims to raise awareness on the issues that shape (her) identity.
We'd suggest you show up early because the entry is on a first-come, first-served basis. The author will also be signing a limited number of books at the end of the event.
