Bertrand Lavier Solo Exhibition
They call him an appropriation artist. Influential French artist Bertrand Lavier likes to take everyday industrial objects like pianos, fridges and furniture and paint them. He does this to shake up our deeply entrenched visual habits and throw some shade, while he’s at it, at our “fetishization of the art object”, by provoking questions about artistic creation and authorship. Since the late 1960s, Lavier has created a complex and eclectic universe that explores the boundaries between painting and sculpture, photography and painting, reality and imagination, language and object, copy and original. Examine his latest series of sardonic sculptures and paintings at his first solo exhibition in Athens, hosted by the Bernier/Eliades Gallery.
