Christmas at the Acropolis Museum
Parthenon addicts and Christmas lovers, it’s certainly the season to be jolly. The Acropolis Museum’s festive programme is out and it’s a rich one.
Every Saturday morning, take part in tours led by the museum's archaeologists, who reveal the secret stories, myths, fables and traditions behind the museum's 20+1 masterpieces spread throughout the museum’s galleries.
What do two ceramic vessels from Toronto, Canada have to do with the Parthenon’s frieze? And how are they connected to the Goddess Athena and the Great Panathenaia, the biggest and most important festival of ancient Athens? Get the answers every Friday at the Parthenon Gallery.
More into gastronomy than history? During the holiday season the museum's restaurant will stay open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Enjoy the special festive menus with traditional recipes boasting local ingredients while enjoying the fabulous view. You can also check in during the day for a coffee and a side of Greek Christmas carol singing on the 22nd, 28th and 30th of December, each day with a different ensemble. And, don’t forget to stop by the museum’s shop and pair your warm wishes for a Happy New Year with some unique lucky charms and ornaments, inspired by the Museum’s permanent exhibition.
