The Christmas of Karagiozis at La Scala
For Greek children, the Karagiozis is the impish mainstay of a Greek Christmas; always at the ready to wreak mischief and cunning to outwit those around him.
The shadow puppet theatre’s beloved hero has now popped up at the Athens Concert Hall in a merry and bright new production by the Elias Karellas Shadow Theatre Company that’s sure to delight all families this festive season.
The Christmas of Karagiozis at La Scala in Milan takes the action to Italy’s legendary opera house where everyone is busy with feverish preparations for the Christmas Gala and the Christmas Goblin has turned things upside down in his usual fashion. Bizarre events take place: singers lose their voice, musical instruments disappear, and notes change place on the music sheets.
Good old Karagiozis steps into the role of detective, undertaking to solve the mystery behind the mayhem and save the gala. Athenian families will snap up these tickets fast to see a festive favourite at one of the city's most Christmassy cultural venues, so don't dilly dally too long over this one!
