Curing the Limbo
“Refugees are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, with the same hopes and ambitions as us,” wrote Khaled Hosseini of The Kite Runner fame. Head down to the Trigono (Athens Commercial Triangle) this Saturday to celebrate our common humanity at a free evening of food, dance, music, art and family fun. Curing the Limbo is an EU project that aims to weave refugees into the fabric of our urban communities by providing access to essentials like language courses, affordable housing and neighbourhood interactions. To mark World Refugee Day (20 June), there’ll be performances from pan-African group Ubuntu Drum and Dance, and The Syrian and Greek Youth Forum. Savour flavours from Syria, Afghanistan and South Africa at a community dinner while you take in an open-air photography exhibition from Athens-based refugees. It’s a great reason to check out this pivotal pocket of the Athens Historic Centre that’s been awoken through social enterprises and artistic collaborations after a long slumber.
