Cyprus '74: Never Forget
Marking the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the National Historical Museum (housed in the Old Parliament building) looks at how history and art blend to both document and galvanise with Cyprus '74. Never Forget. Through evocatively curated posters and images, the exhibition showcases the power of the visual image to interpret a historical event. The posters, drawn from the rich Poster Collection of the National Historical Museum, are presented thematically and were originally published to raise awareness about support events for Cyprus and the call for solidarity with the invasion's victims.
In addition to their historical significance, these posters stand as works of art born out of the Turkish invasion. Some were inspired by photographs from the period, accurately capturing the events and emotions of the time. Through these visual artefacts, Cyprus '74. Never Forget offers a poignant reminder of the power of art and media in mobilising public sentiment and action during times of crisis.
