Don Giovanni
Women want him. Men want to be him. Whether you deem Don Giovanni to be a villainous sexpest or a doomed hero who blazes a trail to his own destruction, there’s no doubt that Mozart’s famous opera is a thrilling romp. Spice up your Valentine’s Day with the Don’s lusty antics as a major new international co-production of Don Giovanni by the Greek National Opera, the Gothenburg Opera and the Royal Danish Opera, debuts on the new digital platform, GNO TV on 14th February (to remain available on demand for six months). Directed by John Fultzames, the Royal Danish Opera’s noted artistic director, the action has shifted from mid-18th century Spain to a modern hotel that’s a microcosm of a city, where the private becomes public. “It is a work about how we live together in society and, as always with opera, about how we deal with death,” says Fultzames. "Don Giovanni himself prefers death, even hell, to denying who he is.”
* Due to the restrictive measures against the pandemic, the performance dates refer to when the production will be recorded so as to be streamed on GNO TV.
