Don Quixote
The Greek National Opera Ballet opens the season with a dazzling revival of Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus, reimagined by visionary choreographer Thiago Bordin who breathes new life into Marius Petipa’s iconic choreography. Infused with the spirit of traditional Spanish dance, this fresh interpretation is beautifully enhanced by Minkus' score, full of humour, romance, and timeless ideals of chivalry and blends classical elegance with Bordin’s own creative flair.
Based on Miguel de Cervantes’ literary masterpiece, Don Quixote tells the passionate love story of Kitri and Basilio, set against the vibrant, sun-soaked backdrop of Spain. Audiences can expect a visual feast, with sets by the acclaimed George Souglides and costumes by internationally renowned Greek fashion designer Mary Katrantzou, while Eirini Vianelli’s imaginative animations promise to transport them even deeper into this captivating world.
