NEON: Dream On
Artists are dreamers. Creating something out of nothing. Dream On, a celebration of boundless imagination, comes to one of the city’s architectural landmarks, the former Public Tobacco Factory. Greek art foundation NEON delivers another impressive contemporary art exhibition - remember Portals? - consisting of 18 large-scale installations along with newly commissioned work and drawings. Expect work by artworld superstars, presented to the Greek public for the first time.
Among the installations there’s Greetings from the Gutter/Avoiding the Inevitable by professional provocateur Damien Hirst and Michael Landy’s Credit Card Destroying Machine, an installation which transforms your credit card into art.
NEON founder Dimitris Daskalopoulos has gifted these iconic works, taken from his impressive art collection, to prominent art institutions. We wave goodbye to them at the end of the exhibition, when they will make their way to EMST, the Guggenheim, MCA Chicago, and Tate.
Go for the art exhibition, stay for the restored building. It’s a beauty, with its eye-catching bright colours, soaring atrium, and effortless modernist class.
