Αthens Epidaurus Festival 2022: Dusk
A theatrical group that stages Lars Von Trier’s Dogville, offers shelter to a Brazilian woman who left her country seeking refuge. It’s all going well, until it’s not: members of the cast start acting racist and show signs of xenophobia.
Welcome to Dusk, Brazilian director, writer and filmmaker Christiane Jatahy’s latest work, clearly inspired by the film of the Danish misfit. If it doesn’t sound interesting enough already, try this on for size: during the show, the actors film themselves, and the audience gets to watch their footage being broadcast live on a screen above the stage. So, that’s a fourth-wall breaker, an inside look and a play within a play, all in one. Got all that?
Post-show talk with the director and cast on 27 June.
With English subtitles.
