Elenit at Onassis Stegi

Outrageous padded costumes, ecstatic choreography, moments of beauty and moments of absurdity, contagious humour and strong emotions, a live DJ on stage and an odd creature that speaks in autotune. This is the universe of Elenit, Euripides Laskaridis’ work produced by Onassis Stegi and co-produced by some of the most significant theatres and festivals around Europe. A little before the launch of the work’s fourth touring phase, Elenit will be making a farewell stop at Onassis Stegi, where it had its world premiere back in 2019.

Having performed since 1995 for renowned directors, such as Dimitris Papaioannou and Robert Wilson, Euripides Laskaridis began directing his own pieces from 2000 onwards. According to his audience and reviewers, his work sits “somewhere between happenings, burlesque, and contemporary dance.” In 2015 he toured international festivals with his piece Relic, a one-man show about a solitary creature, and in 2017 he returned with Titans, a play about two codependent beings who existed from before the beginning of time. Elenit is his first performance including several dancers and the contained chaos they all bring to the stage only strengthens Laskaridis’ creative expression. A non-linear dark comedy, his latest work is an ensemble piece of three creatures and a machine, as well as a chorus of many dancers.
