Granma: Trombones from Havana
Have you ever seen a piece of documentary theatre? Here’s your chance. Four grandchildren of men and women who helped change the landscape of Cuba in the 60s take to the Stegi stage in Granma: Trombones from Havana to recreate the myth of Fidel Castro’s Cuban revolution. This time, they’re the ones in charge of writing history. They’re not actors though; these descendants of revolutionaries. There's a mathematician and cinematographer, a software programmer, a history student, and a musician who spent months teaching her three co-stars to play the trombone (her grandfather was in the legendary Orchestra Maravillas de Florida). Through emblematic music, video projection (that's the documentary bit) and animated everyday objects, the quartet stitches together the histories of their elders and asks whether the utopian ideals of the past could exist today. Created by the co-founder of Rimini Protokoll, Stefan Kaegi, this inventive performance will be in Spanish with English and Greek sub-titles.
