Janis Rafa: We Betrayed the Horses
After a year-long spotlight on contemporary female artists, EMST continues its strong curatorial direction with We Betrayed the Horses—the first institutional solo exhibition in Greece by Janis Rafa.
The Athens-born, Amsterdam-based artist explores the fragile and often fraught relationship between humans and non-human animals—focusing particularly on the bond between humans and horses. Through new sculptures, text-based works, and a video installation, Rafa navigates themes of love, domination, consent, mortality, and loss.
Two museum spaces are transformed into an environment that invites quiet reflection on our shared vulnerabilities—and how we relate to the natural world.
