KOYAANISQATSI - Life Out of Balance
KOYAANISQATSI, hailed as a cinematic masterpiece, was crafted by visionary director Godfrey Reggio in 1982 and has since garnered attention for its experimental execution and strong environmental message. Mark your calendars for September 30th when this legendary experimental film will be projected at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The screening will be accompanied by a live score by the Philip Glass Ensemble and the Academia Athens Youth Choir. Primarily composed of time-lapse and slow-motion sequences, some played in reverse for dramatic effect, the film offers a captivating perspective of cities and the changing landscapes spanning the United States, all set against the backdrop of Philip Glass’ music. The title KOYAANISQATSI, borrowed from the Hopi native American language, encapsulates the film’s core message: “'life out of balance” or, alternatively, “a state of life that calls for another way of living.”
