Lessons of War II: Sicilian Dramas
Have you ever head of the Peloponnesian War? Surely, you've heard of Sparta. Athens and Sparta weren't always on good terms, as you may know. The Peloponnesian War (431–404 BC) was a war lost by Athens and one that reshaped ancient Greece. In its second phase, Athens thought it was a good idea to attack Sicily, Sparta and Corinth's ally at the time. That didn't go well. Thucydides was the conflict's major historian and his History of the Peloponnesian War is one of the earliest scholarly works of history. Lessons of War is an acclaimed theatrical adaptation of Thucydides' work based upon the conventional structure of Greek tragedy: tragic flaw, hubris, and nemesis. Imagine fun, ancient Greek bloody times with a piano performance and English surtitles.
