M-Power Festival
One of the biggest barriers for disabled people is that society views them as powerless, dependent and static. Artists both with and without disabilities come together at M-Power Festival, where “M” stands for “motivation” and “movement”, and aim to show the world their true power. The four-day festival by Onassis Stegi includes performances, screenings, workshops, and a conference. Solar by “En Dynamei” ensemble asks the poignant question “Must the world be perfect in order for us to celebrate?”. Ephemeral Body by Valasia Simeon is an autobiographical dance performance about her experience as a dancer with mobility impairments. The Dan Daw Show, nominated for the UK National Dance Awards, is a daring erotic celebration of the dancer’s body. The film Shadow, with 95% of its performers being people with disabilities, shows us that our prejudices are our own worst enemy. M-Power Festival is all about meaningful empowerment for all, because disability stereotypes affect everyone.
