Manolis Charos: Treasure Island
From pirates and cowboys to Evzones and heroic tropes summoned from the pages of literature, take a tour across the inner-landscape of one Greek artist and his Island of Treasures. In this solo exhibition at the Benaki Museum of Greek Culture, post war contemporary painter Manolis Charos presents around 50 mixed media works drawn from classic masterpieces, myths and police novels that remain topical despite the passage of time, allowing for the critique of fundamental socio-political behaviours. Like what you see? Snap up the richly-illustrated companion book, Manolis Charos – Treasure Island, with text by art historian and exhibition curator Eleni Athanassiou - and digest it all over a coffee or light Greek bite upstairs at the museum's classy cafe.
